Mike Schiefelbein attended Chatfield Sr. High in Littleton, CO where he earned All-State honors as a pitcher his junior and senior year and was an All-American as a senior. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 2nd round out of high school, though he elected to go to the University of Arizona. The summer before attending college he played on Team USA and competed in the Junior Olympics in Havana, Cuba. He was an All-Conference pitcher his sophomore season at Arizona and tabbed as a preseason All-American his junior season in college. Despite sustaining injuries his last two seasons in college, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants and played 2 seasons of professional baseball in the Giants organization.
After his playing career, Mike returned to Colorado and began coaching high school baseball. He and his family moved to Arizona in 2009. Coach Schiefelbein, commonly referred to around the baseball field as “Schief”, has been the Pitching Coach for Liberty High School in Peoria, AZ since 2014. He helped guide the team to a 5th place finish in state in 2014, followed up by state runner-ups in 2015, and state champs in 2018. He also serves as the Arizona state director for Garciaparra Baseball Group (GBG), a nationally ranked travel baseball organization. Mike also has provided pitching instruction to youth and high school baseball players in Colorado and Arizona for many years.
Mike and his wife Tiffany reside in Peoria and have 2 children – Kelsie 19 and Kaden 17.
