PERSONAL STATEMENT
I hope to be part of a winning team, under the leadership of an inspiring coach. I am eager to learn and compete with the best, for I know that is how I am most challenged. I believe sports can be a platform for good and I hope to be a mentor to others. I enjoy learning about the brain and psychology, and how we can lift each other up to become better. I believe in loyalty and hard work, but mostly I respect integrity. I look forward to the experience of college as a student-athlete, and am ready for the journey.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Describe Your Playing Style?: I love the sound the of a wood bat hitting the ball in just the right spot .I’m a contact hitter who puts the ball in play. I practice discipline at the plate, earning high QABs (61.5% in 2018 Varsity play). In conference league play, I hit .422 with only seven strikeouts. I've gained consistent power with my mentor & hitting coach Jim Cooney, who trained as a Texas Ranger with Rudy Jaramillo. My swing technique is to hit down on the ball, creating line drives or sharply hit grounders - no pop flies. I use my speed and instincts on the base paths to steal bases and earn runs. I'm versatile and dependable, able to play Catcher, Middle Infield and Center Field.

Favorite Athlete(s) and why?: I've always admired Mike Trout and the athleticism he brings to the game of baseball. The all-around skill and class he brings to the MLB is something I aspire to achieve in my game. Other favorites are Paul Konerko, Anthony Rizzo, Scott Podsednik, Jose Abreau and Jose Bautista.

Other activites and interests: Co-Curricular Activities: Basketball, Blues Piano, Drawing & Design, Social Service Projects, Digital Media & Design. Interests: Psychology, Cuban History & Culture. Simple pleasures: hanging out with my dog and friends, fishing, golfing, and listening to good country music.
Who's been the biggest influence on my sports career and why?: My dad. If it wasn't for my dad, I would have quit baseball in 6th grade. He has always been my biggest fan and inspiration. My hitting coach Jim Cooney has also been my mentor. He taught me to hit, to catch, to run and to fight for what I believe in. I am the person I am today because of them. I hope to make them proud.
About Me: I'm a Northern Lake County IL All- Conference athlete in both Baseball and Basketball (Honorable Mention All-Area). I love the crack of a wood bat. I hit .422 in 2018 league play with only seven strikeouts. I’m a contact hitter who puts the ball in play. As a 3-year starting point guard in Basketball, I am athletic and fast. Coaches say I have the “intangibles.” Years of strength training have aided my hitting and I've gained consistent power with strength & hitting coach Jim Cooney, who trained as a Texas Ranger with hitting coach, Rudy Jaramillo. I've worked hard to develop a balanced and smooth-loading swing, with a level barrel path, to hit line drives to all fields.

My father is a first-generation Cuban-American who works hard building a small business, while working his day job in the news business. He has taught me the value of perseverance and compassion for others. My mother is a dance professor and has taught me the value of art and education. Besides sports, I enjoy music and playing Blues Piano. I’m passionate about my 2 years of service with PSP (Public Service Practicum) which has taught me Life Lessons about working with and helping other people. I plan to study psychology in college and use my platform as an athlete to help others.
