PERSONAL STATEMENT
Having played several different sports from the age of 4, I've been a student athlete for most of my life. Being a part of a team and creating lifelong friendships has always been important to me. I love the competition and the challenges along the way with each sport I've played and I've learned to take those challenges and apply them to my everyday life. Baseball has been my passion and I hope to continue my baseball career for many more years.

Recommendation: Steven is a competitor on the field and in the classroom. He has a great work ethic to go with his competitive nature. He has leadership qualities, both by his words and his actions.

Steven has a good, working knowledge of how to play the game both offensively and defensively. Understands the situation offensively, and consistently hits the ball hard. Defensively, as both a third baseman and catcher, he plays with a mental awareness that not many players his age have.

Steven works tirelessly. Always the first one to field to get extra swings or defensive reps, and one of the last to leave, getting others to stay with him after practice is over to get more work in. He has even asked for a key to the facility so he can go hit in his free time.

Recommendation: It is my pleasure to write this on behalf of Steven Lancia. Steven is one of the hardest working ballplayers I have had the chance to work with. Day in and day out Steven is constantly working on his game. He takes the thought “win the day” to another level. He is the first one to show up to the field and the first to sign up for extra batting practice. Stevens baseball IQ goes far beyond his years and can lead any team. Steven can work his way into any lineup with his bat but also adds great depth with his defensive capability. While Stevens primary position is catching, and he can also provide teams with options at the corners in the infield. His ability to frame, transfer, and block is some of the best I have seen in San Diego. He has a 1.91 pop time and has the knowledge to call a great game. Over the past 3 years of being around Steven, his ability to hit has put him in an elite group. He has adapted and put in many hours to be able to drive the ball to all fields.

Beyond his baseball ability, Steven is an above average student with a good head on his shoulders. His character is the thing I admire most. It is something that can be passed onto those around him. Steven manages his priorities better than most high school students and understands what it takes for him to reach his goals. I can’t think of a better kid and ballplayer for every team to have. Steven will succeed at any level and make every team better than they were before.
