PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am a person who likes to work hard. I became serious about golf relatively late at the age of 12 and first played competitively at age 13. My hard work is how I've come a long distance in a short period of time. Sometimes it is hard to go to the course and practice putting, but I know that it is necessary for success. I think coaches will be impressed with my work ethic. No matter the situation on the course, I will treat every shot with the same goal in mind: to play it to the best of my ability. I will not give up in a tournament. With that being said, I know my limits. If I have to shoot 59 in the final round of a tournament, obviously that is extremely unlikely. However, I feel as though a successful tournament is when I play my best golf, from preparation to execution to the mental aspect. I let the chips fall where they may. The college I am looking for, in terms of golf, is a place where I can grow as a player on and off the course, and a place where my golf game can thrive. I know that at my current pace, I will likely not play top division 1 golf. But if there is a college that supports me and my game, that would be a success. I like the team aspect of golf. I think that coaches would find my feedback to other players constructive and encouraging. I like the bonding experience over our sport. A college that supports me as a person and the above would be my number 1 college. Because I am young for my grade, and because I got a somewhat later start in competitive golf, I am considering taking a gap year before starting college.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Describe Your Playing Style?: I like to have a set game-plan when I play a tournament. I like to practice at that course beforehand. I like to be prepared when I compete. In a practice round, I remember my club selections on every shot, and go through a particular and specific pre-shot routine every time. I memorize and visualize the course. This way, on the days of the tournaments, I can be strategic and play with as few mistakes as possible. I know where my misses are and where to miss shots on the course. I feel as though my approach to tournaments is calculated and methodical. I like to know information. On the course, however, I also like to feel and visualize all of my shots. I like to be aggressive only when I know I can pull of a certain shot. From an escape out of the trees to going for that long par 5 over water in 2. To summarize, I like to play a round by focusing on making as few mistakes as possible, and taking advantage of my good shots.

Favorite Athlete(s) and why?: Tiger Woods, Alex Ovechkin, Kyrie Irving, TJ Oshie, Braden Holtby, Alex Honnold, Michael Phelps, Jason Day, Daniel Ricciardo, Charles LeClerc, Lando Norris.
Other activites and interests: When I am not playing golf, I like to play piano. I am a classically trained pianist who has been playing since age 3 (14 years). My middle school had an outstanding musical program, where I thrived as a pianist. I have given dozens, maybe hundreds of concerts and recitals in the past. But for now, I love playing piano in our home. I also love to listen to music. I love late 90’s and early 2000’s hip hop. Tupac, Eminem, Biggie Smalls, … I guess I like the structure and really appreciate their lyrics. Maybe I like the structure because of my classical background.
I love motorsports, particularly Formula 1, endurance racing, and GT racing. I wish I was in a position to race, but unfortunately, I am not. That is why I sim race. I find the nature of setting perfect lap times extremely satisfying, knowing that you have taken every corner perfectly. I have enormous respect for Formula 1 drivers. There is nothing more exciting than going wheel to wheel at 200 miles per hour. I guess there is part of me that is an adrenaline junkie.
I like to play video games as well. I find it a nice escape and a way for me to fidget away my stress. I find that playing games well is extremely satisfying. If you win, then you are better.
Writing this now, I see a pattern. I like to do things to the best of my ability. I like to know that I have done something as close to perfect as possible.
Who's been the biggest influence on my sports career and why?: My dad. He is not an expert golfer. But he has been my role model on and off the course. He taught me the game at age 5. I figured out I liked golf because he let me see that. He was the first to coach my mental game. I really enjoy our time together on the course.
I would also say my swing coach Jim Estes. A PGA pro, he has helped me develop my game and help me see the science behind golf. He has also told me to feel and visualize my swing and the shots I hit. He has helped me shave off numerous shots and faults. However, his attitude and mental game is extremely strong. I credit much of my strong mentality on the course to Jim. He has helped me approach rounds with the same mentality and preparation as a tour pro.
About Me: At age 8, I went to a musical boarding school: St. Thomas Choir School. As I mentioned before, the music was incredible. At that school, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to travel. I toured roughly 20 states as well as Germany and Denmark. The director of music, the late Dr. John Scott, was like a mentor to me. While he would teach me about music, he would also teach me about how to be a leader. He was a man I admired and looked up to. However, I learned more from that school than just music. I learned how to be independent and responsible for myself. Boarding for almost 10 years will do that to you. I think that will be my biggest strength in college. I will already know what it is like to take care of myself and live away from my home.
When I graduated from St. Thomas, I was enrolled into Milton Academy (with a scholarship). Milton has an excellent education to offer. I have forged friendships here that I won’t forget. The independence of high school compared to middle school has, again, strengthened my self reliance. In the long run, I have enjoyed my time at Milton. I am in my senior year now, and I look forward to what this year holds.
