PERSONAL STATEMENT
Baseball has helped me in a way that no sport could ever do better. It has connected me with people all over the world, and it's amazing to go somewhere far from home and know someone from there. Baseball has taught me to have a short memory and move on, but to also love the process and the game.

Recommendation: My name is Jeff Scholzen and I’m the Area Scout for the Mikwaukee Brewers in the Soutwest Region (Four Corners). I have been a full-time scout for the past 20 years, having scouted for the Angels for over a decade, before moving to the Brewers. Before this, I was the Head Baseball Coach at Southern Utah U for 4 years, and also played for the Angels org briefly in the minor leagues.

I have seen Brexten Starley play competitively since he was 9 years old. He has played with my son during this time, and I believe I am qualified to evaluate his tools, to play at the next level.

Brexten has always been a big, strong kid and has dominated for the most part at every age group level, with his combination of size, arm strength and his ability to hit for big power one day. This kind of power, does show up at times now. He has a big frame to throw to as a catcher, and he has soft hands, can stick pitches and blocks balls very well for his age. He has the type of arm, for this level, to stop the running game and also plays 1B, when not catching. He can catch unsuspecting runners flat footed, with powerful throws on back picks from both positions.

Brexten has the ability to play at any level of college baseball, and I believe he will be a Division 1 talent and have impact. Brexten started on the varsity as a freshman, until things were shut down across the country. Now with where Brexten plays in Utah, he and other players don’t get the recognition, publication coverage or ranking that they are due, but I’ve seen all the best 2023 players in the four corners and in this scouts opinion, Brexten who also plays for the NY Mets Four Corners Scout Team 2023 during the fall, is among the top 2-3 catchers in the area for his class, and quite possibly #1. Now because there are not rankings from credible sources in Utah, others may disagree. However they are not scouts nor are they qualified to evaluate. They also have not seen all the talent over a broad area as I have. In closing, If I was still coaching in college, my catcher would be Brexten Starley.

If any coaches have questions about Brexten, please call me at the number below. Thank you for your time and consideration of Brexten.

Yours in Baseball,

Jeff Scholzen

Recommendation: Brexten is a 5 tool baseball player with a drive to be the best he can be. He has pin point accuracy and an outstanding arm. He loves to play baseball and started for our varsity team this year (and I try to never start freshman). He is a multi-sport athlete with a bright future and I highly recommend him.

Recommendation: Brex is a rare talent on the baseball field can hit for average and power to all fields. He has a tough mentality and great feel for the game. Brex is smart and plays the game with an unmatched competitiveness! Brex's arm and awareness behind the plate make it tough for coaches to establish a running game. Brex is a great clubhouse guy and has come a long way. He has a future at the next level and will compete right away!
