PERSONAL STATEMENT
After my first three years at Santa Margarita Catholic High School my cumulative GPA is 4.1. Throughout my high school career, I have continuously set big goals for myself academically, athletically as well as involving myself in many student body activities. Lacrosse has given me a balance and structure enabling me to excel in the classroom and socially. I love the camaraderie that comes with playing lacrosse and appreciate my teammates success as much as my own.

Recommendation: This will be one of my easiest recommendations to make as I hold Michael Walsh in the highest regard as a player, and as a person. Michael has all the attributes needed to play lacrosse at the highest level. He is an incredibly gifted athlete and has an unsurpassed work ethic. Michael is constantly pushing himself and his teammates in the classroom and on the field.

As a player, Michael is an excellent two way midfielder. Has a very good change of direction and can shoot on the run with both hands. He is physical on ground balls and on the defensive side of the ball he is athletic enough to guard anyone. Michael is one of the quickest learners on the field, he can take an instruction from a coach and put the words spoken into action almost immediately. If he does struggle with anything (a concept, a technique etc.) he will put in work on his own time to remedy the issue, be it extra time hitting the wall, working on his shooting form, or watching film.
Michael is a diamond in the rough type lacrosse player. As a two-sport athlete for the better half of his high school career (he is an excellent football player), Michael still has a lot to learn on the lacrosse field. But a program who can take him in, work with him and develop his athleticism, has an absolute gem on their hands.

As a student, Michael is first class. He has one of the highest GPA’s on our team and always keeps academics first in what he does. He takes advanced classes as well, always pushing himself to be the best in everything he does. I have never had to worry about Michael and his grades which makes my life so much easier.

As a person, I hold Michael in the highest regard. He looks after his teammates, cares about others. As his high school coach, I stress that one of the greatest qualities in a leader and a teammate is the ability to “serve” others and put the needs of others above their own. Michael embodies this daily, be it helping a teammate with homework, walking them through a drill or technique, or spotting them in the weight room. I have a great story I like to tell about Michael that I think will give you a good sense of the kind of guy he is:
This fall I announced to my high school team my wife and I were expecting our second child in the spring. While I got plenty of high fives and hoots and hollers from the players, Michael waited until practice was over, walked up to me, looked me in the eye, and said, “congrats coach, I am so happy for you” and then proceeded to give me a big hug in the middle of the field. I can’t tell you how much that gesture meant to me, and for a young man to have the awareness and heart to do something like that speaks volumes of him as a person.

In closing, if I had a team full of Michael Walsh’s, I don’t think I would ever lose a game. He is a very special young man who I think would be a positive contribution to any program he joins.

Please feel free to email or call me with any questions or concerns.

Recommendation: To Whom It May Concern,

It is an honor for me to recommend Michael Walsh as a student athlete at your institution. I have had very close contact with Michael as his club coach over the past two years. I am happy to respond on Michael’s behalf and I believe he is a strong candidate.

As a young man, Michael has distinguished himself as a leader on our team. He was a starter for the entire summer as well as a Team Captain. He accomplished this with a strong work ethic, discipline, and a mental and physical toughness rarely seen in today’s youth. I have no apprehensions about his ability to compete physically or mentally as a student athlete at your institution. He is very competitive and physical. In addition, he makes good decisions under pressure and is a good leader. Michael Walsh leads by example. He possesses a very level-headed personality and is very dependable. He earns complete trust from his coaches and teammates because he is sincerely dependable. He is a good teacher and has been impressive in his willingness to help younger players develop and understand the game.

As a player, Michael is very athletic. He has an explosive first step and can get sparation from most athletic defenders. He dodges at full speed and has great vision. He knows when to shoot and when to move the ball. His lax IQ has grown exponentially over the past year. He is ready for DI competition and speed. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. He loves to play defense as a middy and is happy to put the team first doing what is asked and required. He wants to play at the very highest levels and is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.

I am very confident that he will be successful and serve your institution in the same impressive manner that he has represented our club. I hope you will give him strong consideration.

Please contact me if I can respond further on Michael’s behalf.
