PERSONAL STATEMENT
I choose to attend Xavier Prep because although the school is relatively new, it has a solid reputation for academic excellence. The baseball program is growing but is not like the powerhouse program right down the road from my school. Most of my friends chose to attend the powerhouse but I believe academics should be the top priority for chosing a high school. Baseball is my passion and i play it with energy and enthusiasm so that it does not matter to me that my high school is not the top prog

Favorite Athlete(s) and why?: Derek Jeter is my favorite athlete because he played with wonderful athleticism and a showed an equal work ethic. He always seemed articulate and thoughtful and I have tried to model myself after him on and off the field.
Other activites and interests: Baseball consumes a lot of my time, but I also do a lot of volunteer work. I work with developmentally disabled children and help them play baseball in a league. I also volunteer at facilities for the elderly where I have met many interesting people, including athletes from the 1940s and 1950s.
Who's been the biggest influence on my sports career and why?: My father has been the biggest influence on my sports career so far. He has practiced with me since I was 7 years old. From the time started hitting off a pitching machine, he has been there to encourage me to go forward when I felt like just stopping. He taught me that I will play with many kids with talent as I grow up, but the ones that succeed will succeed because they paid attention to academics and worked as hard in the classroom as on the field. He has taught me that sports, like life, requires thought and preparation and that working hard is not as important as thinking and understanding your sport or activity. Now I feel like I have an advantage on the field because I can think quickly and and can understand and anticipate. I think this is why I have a reputation for making good plays and not committing may errors.
About Me: I am the youngest of three children. I have a sister who is a senior at the University of Oregon. She plans to go to law school. I have a brother who is a sophomore in college and is a linebacker on the football team. I plan to go to college and major in economics and also go on to law school. I want to study economics because our entire economy our captialistic economy is based on the efficient allocation of resources and it has always fascinated me how our economy can be so efficient when others around the world cannot. Education has always beeen emphasized in our home.My mother has a degree in computer science from Portland State University, and my father has a degree in economics and political science from Yale, and a law degree from Notre Dame Law School.
