| About Me: | Sean is also one of the founders and a four-time recipient of Albion Amigos program. (Mission statement below) ALBION AMIGOS Athletics is the great equalizer and no sport more so than soccer. Whether you are big or small or come from a wealthy family or poor, the playing field is where every child can prove him or herself. Unfortunately for some, the playing field is not equal. In club soccer, as with all other travel sports, the costs of coaching, equipment, fields and travel prevent some of our children from ever stepping onto that field. That's where Albion Amigos comes in. Our club, while offering generous scholarships for those who cannot afford club soccer, goes one step beyond that. The Albion Amigos program incorporates a community outreach program in which individual players and families take on the responsibility of helping the underprivileged youths of our community in a manner that not only financially assists the needy but culturally enriches those who help out. The means by which this is accomplished is varied. Players and their families who have the time, financial needs and motivation to help the needy do so by giving underprivileged children assistance to bring them into the mainstream of American sports culture. There are many ways this can be accomplished: --- Rides to practice and games for kids who have no other way of getting there. --- Taking an underprivileged kid in as a roommate during a road trip to out-of-town tournaments. --- Helping underwrite air fares or tournament fees for those who cannot afford them. --- Providing used or new soccer shoes for those who cannot afford them. Aside from the feel-good Good Samaritan aspect of this program there is another invaluable aspect: Kids from different levels of society get to know each other, assimilate with each other, learn about each other, gain respect for each other. These kinds of relationships break down cultural barriers. The kids who come from well-to-do families learn about the struggles of immigrants and those who are attempting to gain the American Dream, just as the forefathers of the kids from established families did generations ago. Those from less fortunate families are exposed to the inclusiveness of America, the only country in the world where our people are judged more by their accomplishments than by their social status. Albion SC Director of Coaching Noah Gins is the evaluator of those who qualify for this beneficial program. Submit your proposals or accomplishments to him and he will decide whether you and your family qualify as an Albion Amigo. This program also can be cited on your college applications as a meritorious community involvement achievement. |
